nice touch.
D iecast Masters have introduced the Vintage Series of Caterpillar models representing the historic
equipment in all its glory. Packed in a hinged cardboard box on a display base which has a mirrored
finish and name plate. The box also includes a metal name plate and blank insert, allowing the model
to be personalised. Technical details of the model are also present on the inside of the box.
There are some very nice details on the model which can be removed from the display base. The chassis
frame doubles as the bumper with integral counterweight while the rear radiator grill is cast with a crisp pattern
of dimples and integrated indicator lights. The decking panels have an accurate diamond plate texture with
tool box, fuel filler cap and access steps all reproduced. The driver's compartment has also been accurately
captured, complete with operator in period accurate attire, protected from the sun with a detachable umbrella.
The engine side panels have some good cast detailing with hinges and grill texturing all visible. The large
wheels have rubber tyres that have a deep tread pattern moulded into them, extending down the side walls
whilst the wheel hubs have crisp fixing bolt detailing. The rear axle features working steering which is a nice
addition on the model and does have a reasonable amount of movement. The loader arms can be raised to a
reasonable height and the linkage to the bucket is very nicely modelled with the rivet heads all painted over
for a more realistic look. The amount of movement of the bucket is a little limited in terms of tipping angle but
considering the nature of the linkage in 1:50th scale, it is adequate.
