Mecalac 15MC Tracked Excavator

The new Mecalac 15MC tracked excavator tips the scales around the 15-ton mark depending on configuration and is available with a choice of three different boom systems, the original Mecalac versatile boom, a two-piece boom and an offset two-piece boom making it ideal for a multitude of roles. The “Connect” quick coupler system is another advantage with safety forefront in its design and operation.

The machine is powered by a Deutz TCD 3,6 L4 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine delivering 134hp and has 3 operating modes, standby, Eco and Power for excellent fuel consumption. It will be interesting to see if the 15MC is the first of a new range of MC machines like with the MWR wheeled machine which appeared in four different sizes, from 7 to 15 ton.

During the Intermat trade show in 2018, a 1:50th scale model of the 15MC was released which has been accurately replicated by Conrad. True to the original, the upper carriage and cabin utilise the same castings as the 15MWR (With the exception of the steering wheel console) with a brand-new undercarriage and offset two-piece boom.

The engine compartment highlights the contours and styling perfectly, right down to the inset grill with a fine textured finish.

The superstructure has 360 degree rotation with a moulded cabin interior highlighting the driver seating and controls with slightly tinted windows.

The track frames have good surface engraving detail with running drive and idler allowing the flexible rubber track bands to rotate. A blade is incorporated into the design, complete with protective covers over the hydraulic cylinders.

The offset boom configuration has the stick hydraulic cylinder mounted above the boom rather than underneath it as on the Mecalac versatile boom configuration. A cylinder powers the offset movement of the boom which achieves a good range of movement allowing digging to the side of the machine, ideal for digging along the side of a building.

The three work tools are the same as were supplied with the 15MWR and connect easily to the end of the stick where the "Connect" quick coupler has been authentically modelled and is fully operational, allowing the work tools to be connected either way round.

The paint finish and markings are applied to the usual high standards and the model, despite its size, does have a nice heavy feel with plastic only used where necessary. The model is shown below alongside the 6MDX swivel skip cabbed site dumper, another of the new releases in 2018.
