Mecalac 6MDX Cabbed Site Dumper

In 2017, Mecalac acquired the Terex Construction Equipment UK company based in Coventry, England which produced backhoe loaders, site dumpers and rollers. True to their nature, Mecalac began a program to re-image dumpers with safety forefront in the design. At the 2018 Intermat trade show in Paris, the hard work was realised with the announcement of two cabbed site dumpers, the 6MDX and 9MDX with a payload capacity of 6 and 9 ton respectively.

The 6MDX is available with a 180 degree rotation skip or frontal tip skip and has an empty weight of just under 5 ton with a 74hp engine providing for a top speed of 20mph. With Mecalac’s active diecast model program, it was no surprise to see a 1:50th scale replica of the 6MDX in the Mecalac merchandise shop which has once again been produced in Germany by Conrad.

The swivel skip version of the 6MDX has been chosen as the base for the model, with the implementation once again authentically capturing the looks of the real machine, from the curves of the rear body, the articulating chassis frame and the tipping skip to the angular cabin, complete with large silver steps on both sides highlighting the safety aspects of the new design.

The wheels have rubber moulded tyres that have a detailed tread pattern and rotate freely while the drivetrain from front to rear axle is present on the underside. The cabin interior is simple but effective and the skip can be rotated through 180 degrees with an authentic tipping angle.

This is the first release of the model and there are some aspects which will be improved upon for the next production batch, most noticeably the addition of a working hydraulic cylinder to operate the tipping function of the skip which is missing on the initial release. The model is certainly up to the standard of previous Mecalac models and looks great as part of the fleet.
