John Deere 470G Tracked Excavator

Presented here is the 1:50th scale John Deere 470G LC tracked excavator from ERTL. The model is from their "High Detail" series and follows the trend of producing models with good detailing and opening compartments, replacing the earlier Deere 450D with the same castings used for the undercarriage and digging equipment and new castings for the body and cabin.

Being a high detail model, there is a replicated engine casting situated under the lift up opening engine cover with a modelled cab interior highlighting the driver seat and controls. The boom is functional with a fairly good range of movement, topped with flexible hydraulic pipework. The plastic safety railings look fine if a touch overscaled but they are better than those fitted to the previous 450D model.

The updated main body casting looks great with side and top textured panel detailing and simulated anti-slip panels for a little extra realism. There is a side service platform with a textured upper surface and handle detailing cast into the panels

The individually linked metal tracks work well on the model with a loose fit allowing them to rotate freely. Added detailing includes raised grousers and bolt impressions on each pad. The paint finish is good with accurate Deere markings and logos. 

The detail on this model is very good for the retail price and is another great addition to the John Deere model series. The model is pictured below alongside the Deere 460E articulated dump truck.
