Wirtgen W35DC Cold Milling Machine

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Wirtgen W35DC cold milling machine which has been produced by NZG. The diminutive cold planer is a rather small replica and yet packs a great amount of detailing and functionality for such a small model.

The machine is highly versatile and ideally suited for carrying out partial pavement repairs, milling around manhole covers and the placing or removing of road markings. The W35DC has a milling width of 350mm and a cutting depth of  up to 110mm, powered by a Deutz AG 4-cylinder diesel engine generating 57hp and weighing around 4500kg.

The operatorís area houses a driverís seat with metal safety railings, textured floor panel and steering controls while the side mounted control box has been authentically decorated with various switches and controls, greatly enhancing the realistic appearance of the model with a plastic protective cover also supplied in the box which can be hung on the rear frame just above the modelled wheel chock.

The pivoting side wheel support can be adjusted although the raised pole prevents it from fitting fully into the recess on the side of the chassis. The model has functional steering of the front wheel and a nicely replicated rear discharge conveyor housing highlighting surface fixing bolt detailing. The underside of the model shows the cutting wheel which has raised areas simulating the cutting teeth.

The main body casting has engine panel and door handle detailing with crisply printed side cooling grill pattern, Wirtgen logos and the orange stripes. Small details are found throughout the model like the tiny amber beacon, red highlighted lifting eye brackets, water pipe connector, filling caps, coiled control cables and flexible hydraulic lines. This is a very small replica and yet NZG have done a great job in capturing the W35DC, with an excellent paint finish and crisply applied markings.
