Vogele Super 3000-2 Tracked PaverPresented here is the exclusive edition 1:50th scale Vogele Super 3000-2 tracked paver in Eurovia livery from Conrad, who have done an amazing job on this model with the level of detail and functionality far more than would usually be expected from them. Picking up the model, you still get the feel for a Conrad piece with precision engineering, crisp castings and a heavy weight. One of the most interesting aspects of the model for me is the ability to change the configuration and this is where Conrad have really excelled. Out of the box, the model is configured with a short screed with additional pieces supplied to allow the full screed to be constructed. As pictured above, the small screed can be completely removed from the model allowing it to be displayed in a transport configuration. To allow this, the entire canopy can be folded down to reduce the height of the model (pictured below), just like the full sized machine and even the exhaust stack folds for transport. Another great addition on the model is the opening engine compartment which reveals the Deutz 6-cylinder engine block casting within. This was certainly an unexpected feature on the model.
The operator's area is equally well replicated with diamond plate textured floor panels and metal safety railings leading down to the screed. The seats on each side of the model are mounted to pivoting frames with integrated safety railings which fold out to give an unobstructed view of the work area. The canopy roof has extending end sections allowing the driver to remain shielded from the elements. There are also cast work lights integrated into the canopy roof with white painted lenses. The screed components supplied with the model allow different configurations to be demonstrated. The engineering of the linkage system to connect the parts has been very well thought out and is both simple and effective. The side auger housings are made of plastic and have a dovetail shape groove which lines up with the main screed frame to secure the auger. The end point of the metal auger interlocks with the opposite side so that the entire auger turns as one. This is another nice touch.
Once both full length auger frames are connected, the moulding at the end of the support bars is shaped and interlocks with the main support frame to keep the augers in position. The next step is to assemble the material leveling sections which have integrated pins at one end which fit snugly into the holes at the other end. The fit is tight so that the parts lock together firmly. The final step is to lock the support bars in place with the supplied plastic pins. This replica demonstrates that Conrad can produce an exceptionally detailed and functional model which, in my opinion, surpasses the Vogele models from NZG in terms of functionality, engineering and configurability. The paint finish is excellent with crisp printing of the Eurovia markings and logos.
