Terex TLB840 / TLB890 Backhoe Loader

The range of Terex backhoe loaders are produced in Coventry, England along with the range of site dumpers and small compaction equipment. The TLB840 / TLB890 is powered by a Perkins 1204E-E44TA diesel engine delivering up to 100hp with auto-idle to reduce fuel consumption. The all-new cabin provides operator comfort with practical features and functions including the optional excavator style pilot joystick controls.

Two 1:50th scale models have been produced in China by NZG, the TLB840 and the TLB890 which share the same main chassis cabin and front loader castings with the noticeable differences in the design of the rear digging equipment with the TLB840 incorporating an outerslide extending dipper while the TLB890 has an innerslide extending dipper.

The loader arms have a fairly good range of movement with stiff cylinders allowing the model to maintain a chosen pose. The toothed front bucket is modelled on a 4-in-1 design but is non functional although the rear hydraulic detailing is included in the bucket casting. Flexible hydraulic lines have been added to the cylinders with the rivet heads painted over.

To the rear, the king post is mounted to a frame which can slide to each side of the chassis with stabiliser posts at each side having the ability to lower the legs although these are fairly stiff to prevent them working loose. rear facing light housings are raised from the jack legs with silver and red printing while further lights are integrated into the roof of the cabin, both front, side and rear for all-round lighting.

The rear curved boom is fitted with a number of flexible hoses, more so on the TLB840 which actually increase the level of realism while the extending stick works very well, topped with a general purpose toothed digging bucket. The bucket linkage is finished in grey, complete with painted rivet heads.

The cabin interior has been captured very well in a light colour finish with the various controls all visible along with the main console and steering wheel.

The driver's seat has been painted black, complete with armrests and the internal contours of the body panels are accurately presented.

Grab rails are fitted to the cabin frame and the doors have been printed with black to show the different seals, hinges and door handles and this looks impressive.

Externally, the cabin frame has rear view mirrors and safety grab rails fitted with a rear aerial and windscreen wipers.

Underside detailing on the model is fair, with a replicated drive-train to the front and read axles from the transmission block with the front axle having working steering and oscillating movement. The wheel hubs are finished in silver with authentic treaded tyres that have a deep tread pattern.

The paint finish is of a high standard, as expected from NZG with some nice touches like the painted rivet heads adding to the realistic appearance. The Terex logos and markings are accurately placed on the loader arms and backhoe boom.
