Sandvik TH550 Underground Articulated Hauler
Presented here is the limited edition 1:50th scale Sandvik TH550 underground articulated hauler from Conrad. This version has green safety features and has been produced in a run of 500 pieces and is only available from the Sandvik Online Shop. The model is the fifth in the series and compliments the previously released underground loader very well. (Also shown are the 1:50th scale Sandvik figures from Conrad)
The rigid frame has been accurately replicated with good crisp casting of the components showing the various panel details. The cab interior has been included although it is a little difficult to see through the small windows and the rear screen has a protective grill with integrated rear facing work lights.
The front and side opening engine grills reveal the moulded cooling systems with twin fan grill detailing which is a nice touch on the model. Self fit rear view mirrors are supplied with the model and need fitting to the holes in the cab frame and upper body. Four large work lights with silver painted lenses are integrated into the sides of the engine compartment with two smaller lights integrated into the front grill with a simulated front towing hitch.

Hydraulic hosing has been added across the articulating joint with access steps integrated into the body casting behind the front wheel with plastic safety handles. The paint finish is excellent throughout with highlighted components and crisp printed markings.

The photo-etched grill covering is a nice and somewhat unexpected addition from Conrad with the exhaust system having nicely detailed angled pipe ends with a textured main engine cover panel. |

The dump body has an intricate shape which has been very nicely captured with all the re-enforing structure detail added, including the four small holes on the lip of the body used for easy handling of the body during assembly. A nice addition is the safety bar which is hinged to the underside of the bed and folds down just like the full sized machine to protect the workers from being injured during maintenance. The driveshaft to the rear axle is mounted above the chassis frame to protect it from getting damaged by rocks and debris and this has been added to the model, complete with protective rock guards on the underside. |

The body lifts to a very good height while the articulating frame offers a good amount of steering movement with the front axle pivoting to simulate the suspension mechanisms of the truck. The large tyres have a deep moulded tread pattern which looks authentic with plastic wheel hubs showing all the fixing bolt detailing. |

This is a good addition to the growing range of Sandvik replicas with a nice heavy weight typical of a Conrad model. A slightly different version of the model will be available through Conrad's model dealer network with all the safety features finished in the Sandvik orange colour instead of the green safety equipment pictured here.
