New Holland E485B with Mechanical Scrap Shears

Presented here is a custom model based on New Holland E485B tracked excavator fitted with a mechanical scrap shear from Gaz Evans. This is a relatively easy conversion, requiring the removal of the bucket from the base model which is easy, as four friction fit pins are used and they just need carefully extracting by getting a tool under the lip of the pin and prizing them out.

The shear consists of four parts, the main body casting, the jaw casting, the support bar and the coupling plate which is fixed to the stick. The parts fit together well and the attachment is the perfect size for the stick dimensions, requiring no additional fitting. Once the parts are painted, they pin into place on the base model before the baseplate is glued onto the stick at a suitable location to allow full movement of the jaw assembly.

The range of movement of the jaw is realistic, with the bucket linkage a perfect length to achieve the full stroke to ensure the jaw closes fully. The cutting edge detailing has been accurately cast into the model with the structural curves of the shear captured very well. This is another great addition to the Gaz Evans collection.
