New Holland L218 Skid-Steer Loader

New Holland L218 Skid Steer Loader

Presented here is the 1:50th scale New Holland L218 skid steer loader from Motorart. Despite its small dimensions, the model is nicely detailed with some good touches from Motorart.

The cab frame is constructed of photo-etched side panels which really do look the part, while the interior has a modelled driver seat with joystick controls integrated into the armrests. The frame has integrated grab handles and roof fitted lights, complete with rear mounted radio aerial and an open rear section.

The range of movement of the loader arms is impressive although the tipping movement of the bucket is a little reduced. All the cylinders are fairly stiff so the model has no problems remaining in the chosen position.

The tyres fitted to the model have a good tread pattern defined, although on the sample, one of the tyres has been fitted backwards. The wheel hubs have a ring of highlighted fixing bolts with black painted centres which add to the realism.

The rear engine panel has a fine dimpled surface texture which again looks very authentic, topped with a silver decorated logo and semi-transparent plastic light lenses along with the New Holland name printed across the top of the engine housing.

The graphics printed on the sides of the loader arms are very nicely done with crisply defined text and accurate colours.

Some of the rivets used to assemble the arms have been painted over but the main rivets connecting the bucket have been left silver which is a shame

It is good to see that the main body sections are different castings to the C238 to emphasize the size difference and this is great to see from Motorart, with the only shared castings appearing to be the cabin and bucket.

The paint finish is of a very high standard with an even coat allowing the surface casting details to be seen. The L218 is joined by the slightly larger C238 tracked loader and together, they make a great addition to the growing New Holland model fleet.
