New Holland E485B Tracked Excavator
Presented here is the 1:50th scale New Holland E485B tracked excavator from Universal Hobbies. This is the first model Universal Hobbies have produced for New Holland and the choice of the E485B is a welcome addition to the New Holland range.

The body shape has been accurately captured with a crisp grill pattern cast into the side panel, highlighted with black printing. |
Printing of black anti-slip panels on the upper deck look good while tiny printed safety labels on the rear counterweight and a rear safety mirror are all good additions. |

Safety railings have been added, complete with rear view mirrors while the handles for the compartments have been inset into the casting. Two slewing motor housings have been added along with flexible hoses running up the back of the boom.
The cab has a replicated interior with crisp printing of the framework on the glazing. An overhanging sun visor is integrated into the roof window and front facing lights are also added to the roof. A windscreen wiper is found on the front window and a grab rail is located below the cab.

Flexible hydraulic piping has been fitted for added realism with small safety labels printed on the boom.
Unlike earlier models from Universal Hobbies, there are no screws used to join the boom and this is a much needed improvement, even more so as the pins have painted heads. |

The bucket has an interested contour with deep grooved wear protection on the underside of the bucket with small, pointed teeth. |
The tracks on the model are a little fragile and, out of the box, one of the tracks was damaged. A tiny spot of glue fixed the problem but this now prevents the track from rotating freely. Each track pad has some nice grouser and bolt detailing and the track frames have non-functioning roller detailing cast into the lower edge with tensioned idler wheels keeping the tracks taut.
The paint finish is very good throughout and the touched up pin heads are a good improvement from Universal Hobbies. The model is pictured below alongside the Komatsu HM250 articulated hauler from Universal Hobbies
