New Holland D180C Bulldozer

Presented here is the 1:50th scale New Holland D180C bulldozer which has been produced by Motorart. When the D180C and subsequently the Case version were announced by Motorart, I had high expectations of a very nice model. Unfortunately, what has been produced is a hybrid featuring some very nice detailing coupled with toy like design of the track frames and rubber tracks which totally ruin the overall appearance.

The opening cabin doors have a wide opening angle which is a nice touch while the interior has been accurately modelled with a light grey finish highlighting the fine detailing which extends to the exterior frame of the cabin with accurately scaled metal grab handles.

The front blade has the arms mounted on the inside with a very good range of height movement along with the ability to set the blade angle while the laser levelling sensor is mounted to a plastic pole fitted to the frame and the rear of the model has a height adjustable ripper.

The side opening panels are a nice touch but unfortunately, what they reveal is very disappointing. The least they could have done is actually have a three dimensional engine block moulding and the fact that the engineering of the model has a join running through the centre of the engine bay is again disappointing.

The track frames are a joke for a model retailing around the £100 mark and it is so surprising the model does not have linked metal tracks. This is certainly not one of Motorart’s better models and no surprise to me that the Case version was cancelled.
