When it comes to model producers, die-cast tooling is the number one cost for each and every model produced, and to get value from the tooling, typically 3000-5000 models need to be produced in order for the end selling point to be a realistic value. Until recently, I did not know that Conrad can also produce small number run models, typically around the 100-200 pieces and first assumed that these would be made from resin which is becoming a more common medium for smaller run models. To my surprise, the 1:35th scale Mecalac 12MTX model is produced from metal with hardly any plastic used in the construction.

Commissioned by Mecalac as a presentation gift, only 100 pieces have been produced, each mounted to a marble base with a metal plate detailing the machine type and serial number with space available to make the package personalised to an individual.

The stiff card box is also cleverly constructed to hold the model securely while also making it easy to remove for display purposes. Just as with the smaller 1:50th scale version, the boom is fully functional with an articulating chassis, 360 degree rotation of the upper body and adjustable stabilisers.

The only difference to the 1:50th scale 12MTX is that only a digging bucket is included which is permanently connected to the stick. Most of the run have been used internally by Mecalac with a handful advertised for sale on the Mecalac web shop which are now sold outm so Ebay is the best placec to try and track one down.
