JLG 860SJ Telescopic Boom Lift

JLG 860SJ Telescopic Boom Lift

The JLG 860SJ telescopic boom lift is a self powered aerial work platform with a maximum height of 86 ft. Power is provided by a Diesel or dual fuel engine generating between 63 & 82 hp. The machine has a travel speed of 3.5 mph in either two wheel or four wheel drive modes and has a single steering axle. The 1:32nd scale model presented here from JLG is an impressive sized replica with many functional components.

The main body is fitted to the undercarriage and allows a full 360 degree rotation. The toothed slewing ring is visible underneath the body and the front mounted slewing motor can be seen between the main frame sides.

The engine is fitted inside the main body housing and is fully modelled with detailed engine block, auxiliary components, hydraulics and radiator cooling system all present inside the opening gull wing door.

The opposite side of the model also features an opening gull wing door revealing the electrical components and control panel within.

The inside of the compartments are painted in the cream colour which gives a good contrast to the black components.

The undercarriage features a simulated oscillating suspension system with functional hydraulic powered single axle steering which has a good degree of movement. The rubber tyres have a very well defined tread pattern which is authentic to the original tyres fitted to the real machines and each wheel is freely rotating.

The platform is made of plastic and features a central control column with raised hand rail. There is also a molded "Sky Welder" portable welding kit from Miller Welding fitted to the inner side of the platform frame.

The platform can be rotated left and right by 180 degrees and has molded entry door at one end with JLG markings printed around the base.

The fully functional 130 degree jib allows the basket to be raised while keeping parrallel to the ground and the cylinder is stiff enough to allow the platform to be left in any position chosen.

The main boom is connected to the frame and can be raised into position. There is a ratchet mechanism which keeps the section raised and instructions on how to release the mechanism and lower the section are provided in the box. The main cylinder for the boom is very stiff and allows the boom to be placed at any height chosen.

The two telescoping sections can be extended smoothly and lock into position when fully extended. The side of the boom has a simulated cable extension piece which would extend with the boom on the real machine but is non functional on the model.

The model is finished in the striking orange and cream corporate JLG colours with authentic JLG logos on the boom and body sides along with the JLG name cast into the counterweight.
