JLG Gradall 544D10-55 Telehandler

The 544D is the largest telehandler in the Gradall range with a maximum lift height of 55 ft and a carrying capacity of 10000 lb. Precision handling is achieved from the no-shift hydrostatic drive train while the 90 degree rear pivot steering gives excellent mobility. All boom movement is performed by a single joystick control giving smooth operation while the 4 cylinder John Deere 4045HF275 diesel engine generates an impressive 125hp. The 1:32nd scale Gradall 544D10-55 telehandler model features a host of details found on the full sized machine and is finished in the distinctive blue Gradall livery.

The  reproduced rear wheel steering has a very tight turning radius, just like the full sized machine and is finished with flexible hydraulic pipework and working frame levelling mechanism, complete with grey painted rear counterweight with the JLG website address printed on it.

The rubber tyres fitted to the wheels have a crisp molded tread pattern which is authentic to the real machine while the wheel hubs have casting details such as bolt heads and the disc brake housings. The front mounted fold down stabilisers are functional and provide added stability to the model when lowered and have plastic hydraulic pipework from the cylinders along the frame and into the engine compartment.

The four section boom has three extending sections with the first having numbers printed down it's length to give the operator a guage on the level of extension. The Gradall and JLG graphics are all very well presented and authentically placed and the blue paintwork is of a very high standard and is a striking contrast to the other models in the JLG range.

The open cab has a fully reproduced interior with detailed seat, complete with arm rest, side mounted controls and front console with steering wheel and drive controls. The cab frame has accurately sized grab rails and an open grill roof giving good visibility for the operator when working at height. The grill also gives protection from falling debris and clear windows have been added to the side and rear of the frame.

The hydraulic cylinders for the boom are stiff which allows the boom to be placed at any angle chosen but the sample reviewed here does not have the ability for the boom to go low enough for the forks to touch the ground.

There does not appear to be anything catching and it looks like the pistons are fully inserted into the cylinders. This is unexpected as the other JLG models are all authentic in this respect and it seems strange that the model would be signed off considering each one is checked by the engineers before release.
