Hillhead 2012

The weather was kind once again, with the first two days of Hillhead basking in sunshine before the typical british summer weather brought a damp start to the final day. One of the highlights of the show was found on the Caterpillar stand with the 6030 shovel, one of four for Hargreaves taking centre stage. While not planned before hand, demand to venture up the steps was too much, and a constant stream of visitors were allowed up top and around the engine bay which was certainly a great experience.

The demonstration areas were heaving with activity, from the crusher and screener set ups to the machines working at the quarry face, including the Liebherr R974, Komatsu PC700, JCB JS360, Volvo EC480 and Hyundai 520. The steady stream of ADT's carried away the rock with a preiodic arrival of the Terex TR100 rigid which has a very distinctive sounding engine.

Any collectors visiting the Liebherr stand had a pleasant surprise with a host of models offered at excellent clearance prices, although none of the new models turned up in time for the show. Volvo had a merchandising store but, as in previous years, the prices were on par with model dealers with only a couple of clearance items. Komatsu also had a merchandising area but prices for many of the models were on the high side, although there were some clearance prices on some of their older models. Enjoy the pictures taken throughout the first two days of the show.
