Doosan DX27z Mini Tracked Excavator

Presented here is the Doosan DX27z mini tracked excavator in 1:25th scale which has been produced by Universal Hobbies. The model is based on the Bobcat E27z and as such, shares the same tooling for the undercarriage, body, cabin and digging equipment, with the exception that the DX27z is not fitted with a thumb attachment and instead, the flexible hydraulic lines are terminated with a silver valve.

The DX27z has accurately captured the looks of the full-sized machine with the prominent side grills, curved body shape and fully enclosed cabin.

The slotted grills installed into the bodywork really do work well while the cabin interior has been fully captured including red colouring of the hydraulic safety level and silver foot pedals.

The exterior of the cab has a raised door handle and grab rail fixed to the frame with lights located on the roof, complete with painted lenses.

The tracked undercarriage is a fairly simple structure with the track frames having toothed drive wheels which engage with the cut-outs in the rubber track bands. The blade can be adjusted and has a protective plate over the cylinder.

Previous models from Universal Hobbies have not always captured the range of movement convincingly and yet on the DX27z, this has been clearly rectified with the ability to fully mimic the movement of the full-sized machine.

The bucket is cast with a non-removable coupler and it is a shame this was not made to work so the bucket could be detached. Flexible hydraulic lines have been added for an auxiliary circuit and yet there are no hydraulic lines fitted to the main cylinders that operate the boom, stick and bucket linkage which appears a little odd.
