Custom Models - The Faun Goliath H eavy Tow Truck

Faun Goliath

This is a 1:48th scale white metal kit of the Faun Goliath heavy tow truck from ASAM Models. I have been interested in this type of machine for a while and recently decided to purchase several kits from ASAM after having a chat with Alan Smith at a recent toy fair at the NEC.

I usually use glue to build white metal kits (most of the OHS models I have built were constructed this way) and yet with these models, I have chosen to built them by soldering the parts where possible. The Faun Goliath kit is very nicely done with many parts that don't need much preparation. The instructions provided give details of all the parts and there are several diagrams showing the various sub assemblies.

The kit has worked out very well so far and all the sub assemblies are now assembled. The next stage is to paint the model in the Alstom colour scheme which consists of grey and white.

The sub assemblies have been painted using Halfords spray paints in the White and Grey colours of the Alstom company. I have started adding the decals to the chassis and rear box and still need to add the decals to the cab.

There are still a number of small parts which need adding to the model, including the fabricated hand rails and the front and rear light components. I have to say that so far, the results are very pleasing and I am very happy with  the model. I am now considering ordering more kits to work on over Christmas.

This has been a very enjoyable project and was a relatively easy kit to build and solder together.
