Caterpillar 336E Hybrid Tracked Excavator

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Caterpillar 336E Hybrid tracked excavator which has been produced by Norscot. The popular 336 excavator is the first to be fitted with Caterpillar’s unique hybrid technology, a device designed to collect, store and then release the stored energy during machine operation, resulting in greater fuel efficiency without sacrificing performance. This technology reduces the carbon footprint when compared to the standard 336E while significantly lowering owning and operating costs.

The long stick and quick coupler are welcome additions allowing the new cast bucket to be detached. Unfortunately, the dimensions are slightly different so it is not possible to utilise the bucket from the 330D/336D model which also effects aftermarket attachments designed specifically for the coupler on the 330D/336D.

The undercarriage has engraved track frames with individually linked triple grouser track pads that rotate well, with good surface detailing of the final drives highlighting all the bolt fixings.

The cabin interior has been modelled and is visible through the clear glazing. The all black cabin has a grab rail with integrated rear view mirror fitted to the frame while the surface casting details include the door hinges and handle.

The boom and stick have a very good range of movement which mimmicks that of the full sized machine, a welcome addition from Norscot who have tended to restrict the movement on earlier models.

The boom has hydraulic pipe detailing cast into the surface with flexible hoses used sparingly to the hydraulic cylinders which have a smooth operation and are capable of holding a chosen pose. The paint finish is to a high standard with authentic tampo-printed Caterpillar decoration.
