1:50th Scale Caterpillar 994H Wheeled Loader
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Caterpillar 994H wheeled loader from Tonkin Replicas. The 994H is the flagship wheel loader in the Caterpillar line up, powered by a Caterpillar 3316B HD EUI diesel engine delivering a whopping 1463hp. Weighing in at over 195 ton with a bucket capacity of 35 ton for the high-lift arm option, it is a formidable loader ideally matched with haul trucks like the 785, 789 and 793.
The 994 has been produced in model form for a number of years, firstly with NZG producing the 994D before Norscot released the 994F. The H-series version is now produced by Tonkin Replicas and follows the standards set by the manufacturers before them by producing a very good, sturdy replica.

The engine compartment has crisp engraving of the various panels with the rear grill showing the ridged texture. The rear counterweight has integrated steps on each side with lights and rear view camera housing also fitted. All the safety railings are produced in metal, are accurately scaled and for the most part, straight. Any slightly mis-aligned railings can be carefully bent back into shape.
The large cabin and a modelled and decorated interior and good exterior detailing. |

The overall styling of the new 994H is more angular, with the rear wheel arches incorporating the access ladders to the upper deck. |

One additional difference over the previous incarnations are the longer loader arms which can rise to a very realistic height, allowing the model to be posed loading some of the largest mining truck models, like the new MT4400D-AC pictured above.

The weight of the arms and bucket coupled to the hydraulics which are a touch slack prevent the arms from holding at mid height. |
The bucket is a very good single casting which captures all the underside and interior wear plating with a two-tone black and yellow anti-glare colour scheme. |
