Caterpillar 660 Scraper

Cat 660 Scraper

The 1:48th scale Caterpillar 660 is a single engine version of the previously released 666 twin engine scraper and as such, uses the same base tooling for the front tractor with an updated rear end. As before, the front axle has some steering movement with a link to the steering wheel which turns as the axle is adjusted.

The front photo-etched grill with crisp perforations is painted yellow to match the bodywork. Behind the grill is the radiator assembly, complete with cooling fan detailing while the engine housing, with open sides, allows the modelled 560hp V8 engine block to be seen, complete with air filtration components and silver exhaust stack.

Access steps are integrated into both sides of the chassis with textured plates fitted to the upper surface for added safety with a canopy fitted above the operator’s station to protect from the elements with all the hand controls modelled convincingly, down to the printed console.

The rear chassis has a sloping design incorporating a strike area for dozer assisted loading and this is represented on the model with metal access steps fitted to both sides and large tyres with a prominent ridged tread pattern fitted to the detailed wheel hubs.

The ejector plate has a perforated upper section and slides smoothly while the bowl can be adjusted in height with a functional apron and ejector plate. Fixed and flexible hoses are fitted throughout for added realism and the cylinders are stiff in operation, allowing the bowl to remain in position.
