Caterpillar 657G Scraper

Caterpillar 657G

The Caterpillar 657G scraper is finally released and has been eagerly anticipated for a number of years. The model is not dissapointing with plenty of detail and working push pull system. The wheel hubs are highly detailed with rubber tyres, complete with authentic tread pattern.

The rear of the model has realistic scaled metal handrails, access steps and rear facing lights. The rear engine block detail is visible through the open engine compartment and the rear push block and pull hook have been added.

The bowl can be raised and the front discharge door can be raised although the ejector is non functional. This may be a dissapointment for some, but I don't feel this detracts much from the model.

The front of the model has a strike plate and lowering pull bar to allow it to be connected to another 657G model for push/pull operation. The operator station is visible through the clear cab windows and the front bonnet has front facing work lights, access ladders and handrails for easy access to the front engine compartment.

The linkage between front and rear assemblies is functional with both hydraulic steering and tilting operation and hydraulic tanks and access handrails have been added to the rear of the front assembly along with drive train detailing.

This model is another example of the extra effort that Norscot are going to this year and is another great addition to the Caterpillar model fleet. The paint finish is very good with the new "Power Edge" and Caterpillar markings visible. The lack of a working ejector is the only negative aspect of an otherwise great model.
