Caterpillar 613G Elevating Scraper

Caterpillar 613G

Presented here is the Caterpillar 613G elevating scraper in 1:50th scale from Norscot. This is a nice release with plenty of fine detailing giving the model a more realistic appearance to the older Norscot scraper models.

The wheel hubs on the front axle are highly detailed with moulded rubber tyres, complete with accurate tread pattern and sidewall detailing. The engine grill is authentically textured with light clusters on each side of the bonnet and plastic scaled access steps and safety grab rails leading up to the top of the engine bay.

The transmission and drivetrain housing has been modelled with some nice casting detail along with working articulated steering linkage and service platform on the scraper bowl cross member giving access to the Accu-Grade leveling device which has been replicated.

The rear of the model has flexible rubber mud guards and visible bolt detailing on the body panels with painted rear facing lights. The scraper bowl can be set in the raised or lowered position and the elevating mechanism is constructed from a flexible rubber band conveyor with moulded blades. The protective cage above the conveyor has some good detail and the entire mechanism pivots upward away from the front of the bowl.

The replicated operator station, complete with side console controls, steering wheel and driver's seat are visible through the clear cab windows with an air horn, radio antenna and grab rails fitted to the cab roof.

This model is another example of the extra effort that Norscot are putting into their model line and the 613G is another great addition to the Caterpillar model fleet. The paint finish is very good with the new "Power Edge" and Caterpillar markings visible. As with the larger 657G, the rear ejector is non functional on the model reviewed here.
