Caterpillar 6020B Excavator

Cat 6020B Excavator

The 6020B was first introduced to the world at the 2013 Bauma trade show, perfect for the loading of 100 ton haul trucks in four to five passes. Powered by a Cat C32 ACERT diesel engine delivering over 1000hp, the machine tips the scales at 224 tonne with a 12 cubic metre bucket capacity as standard.

The 1:48th scale replica from CCM is another testament to the excellent levels of engineering that goes into every project, producing exacting levels of detail and realism.

The more unusual design of the upper works has been captured convincingly with the rear power module having no fewer than five opening service doors that reveal different glimpses of the internal engine block, cooling systems and hydraulic circuits. Further vents have been accurately modelled with tiny printed safety and warning markings adding to the realism.

The upper deck area is surrounded with authentic scale metal safety railings with textured floor panels for safe underfoot conditions.

Access is by the hydraulically lowering stairway which folds neatly on the cab side of the superstructure, again complemented with metal railings while an emergency ladder is located below the side platform with an additional ladder integrated into the opposite side.

The cabin has a spacious interior with both driver and trainer seating along with the integrated controls in the armrests and tiny printed safety markings. The door to the cabin can be opened which is another nice addition and the large glazed windows offer a good all-round view of the area.

The tracked undercarriage has good surface engraving of the track frames with a detailed toothed drive sprocket and final drive casing and tensioned idler wheels allowing smooth rotation of the individually linked track pads which have dual grouser shoes. Eight lower rollers are integrated into the frame with access ladders, complete with grab rails, fitted to the sides.

The hydraulic hose detailing is particularly well engineered, with plenty of fixes and flexible hoses supplying the cylinders.

All the silver finished valves have been replicated with the joining pins heads painted in matching colours to make them almost invisible.

The bucket fitted on the model shows plenty of surface detailing including the pointed teeth and cutting plates between the teeth to the side plates and ridged wear details on the sides of the bucket with additional wear parts running across the bottom and outer edge.
