Caterpillar 432E Backhoe Loader "Power Edge"

Caterpillar 432E Backhoe Loader

Presented here is the updated "Power Edge" version of the Caterpillar 432E backhoe loader in 1:50th scale from Norscot. One of the main differences over the previous 432E are the yellow coloured loader arms which are fitted with a quick coupler allowing the supplied bucket, lifting arm or pallet forks to be attached.

The attachments are the same as those supplied with the earlier 432D and this is a pity as the four-in-one bucket is really oversized and somewhat spoils the aesthetic looks of the model.

The rear of the model features a fully functional sideshift backhoe boom with new style extra dig stick. The quick coupler allows a bucket, H70 hammer or auger to be fitted. The stabilisers can be lowered and the front wheels are steerable, although there is not much steering movement on the model reviewed here.

The addition of the GPS unit in the box is very interesting, as it is unlikely to be seen that often on real machines. Although it is separate and does not need to be fitted, on the 432E, it is attached to the rear of the model behind the stabiliser post, so the mounting holes are not as noticable when it is not fitted.

The model is finished well in the black and yellow colour scheme with the new "Power Edge" markings. The addition of painted rivets on the backhoe boom and stick is a nice addition over the previous version, although it is curious that the rivets on the front loader arms are black rather than yellow.
