Caterpillar 299C Multi-Terrain Loader

Caterpillar 299C

Presented here is the 1:32nd scale Caterpillar 299C multi-terrain loader from Norscot. This model is an update to the previously released 297C wand shares many of the same castings. The tracks and track frames are new castings, highlighting the design differences between the 297C and 299C

The cab enclosure has a glazed roof panel with integrated work lights along with mesh sides and grab rails integrated into the front frame with a replicated interior complete with driver's seat and controls, including the fold down safety bars. The rear engine compartment door has integrated lights and top radiator cover with a textured grill pattern.

The rubber tracks have an authentic tread pattern moulded into the surface with both drive and idler wheels rotating in the frame. The tracks are a different to the 297C model with a completely new design of track frames which have been nicely cast and include some good detailing. All the wheels rotate although the rubber track bands are quite tight and do not easily rotate.

The model is supplied with three work tools consisting of bucket, pallet forks and grapple bucket which fit to the quick coupler device attached to the loader arms. The arms can be raised to a good height and the pin heads on the linkages have been painted over which is good to see.

While the pallet forks and grapple bucket look fine attached to the model, because the attachments are the same ones as supplied with the smaller 226/247 models, the standard bucket looks underscale which is a shame.
