Case WX168 Wheeled Excavator

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Case WX168 wheeled excavator which has been produced in China by Motorart. The model has some rather nice touches, including the ability to open the cabin door by almost 180 degrees which is a very nice design decision from Motorart.

The cabin interior has been finished to a high level with a light colour highlighting the various hand and steering controls with the driver’s seat finished in a dark colour with printed Case logo.

Metal grab rails with integrated safety mirrors have been added to the frame while lights and a sun visor are fixed to the roof which has a protective upper screen.

The upper engine cover is hinged, lifting up to reveal the internal components which are decorated and look the part, although the hinge is a little large and obtrusive.

The various body panel lines are crisply engraved and more safety railings are fitted, again produced from accurately scaled metal which is great to see and finished with safety mirrors.

The undercarriage has a blade and outrigger configuration which is functional with double tyres fitted to each wheel hub. Out of the box, the first task was to tap out the pins holding the stick cylinder and reverse it. Other assembly issues include white residue where parts have been glued while the windows of the cabin are not crystal clear.

The boom and stick have a fairly good range of movement, matched to a plain looking toothed digging bucket. Flexible hydraulic lines are added to the main boom but do not transfer over to the stick which is a shame. The paint finish is to a high standard and the Case markings are crisply applied.
