Atlas Copco MT42 Underground Hauler

The range of Atlas Copco models are not the easiest items to get hold of, as the company commission their models direct with a model producing factory in China. This has both benefits and disadvantages in terms of functionality and quality.

The MT42 underground hauler is actually a nice release, with some fine detailing observed on the front chassis where the dominant engine compartment has various panels and grills engraved into the surface with black printing used sparingly to enhance the realism.

The main front grill and side grill have a slatted look with integrated front work lights that have painted lenses.

The elongated cabin has a front screen wiper and roof mounted lights with rear view mirrors also added. The windows have a printed black surround and allow the simply modelled interior to be seen.

The main lift hydraulics on the dump body allows for it to be raised, but the pistons are not quite long enough to achieve full height, and end up coming out of the cylinders. A lift up red safety bar is incorporated in the frame to show the truck in service mode and a driveshaft is connected to the rear axle.

The articulating chassis has a fair range of steering movement with hydraulic lines passing to the rear frame. The wide profile tyres have a ridged tread pattern with the hubs showing all the fixing bolt detailing. All the handrails are produced of metal which is good to see and the paint finish is of a high standard with the markings authentically applied, including small warning labels.
