Atlas 350MH Material Handler

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Atlas 350MH material handler which has been produced by Conrad. The 350MH weighs in between 33 and 36 ton with a power output of 226hp thanks to a Deutz TCD2013L062V turbocharged and aftercooled diesel engine. The maximum operational range of the machine is 18.2 meters.

The model follows hot on the heels of the Atlas 1604ZW road rail excavator and again shows more fine detailing than is usually found on a Conrad model, while still having all the typical Conrad qualities including a heavy weight and solid engineering.

The model is constructed mainly of die-cast metal with plastic used only where needed. The main body casting shows some good surface detailing with side cooling grills and a finely textured upper deck surface with chromed diamond plate walkway and red painted safety grab rails which have been made from metal.

The large upper engine cover cut-outs are particularly well done giving a three dimensional look to the rear end while the side engine panel handles have been highlighted along with safety labels warning of the dangers of being too close to the machine, again something not usually seen on a Conrad model.

The undercarraige is built on four outriggers with pivoting pads which are stiff enough to allow the wheels to be raised from the ground. Both axles have drive-train detailing with working steering of the front axle and double tyres fitted which have a very crisp moulded tread pattern.

The "Lift Cab" cabin is mounted to a hydraulically adjustable frame allowing the operator a birds eye view of the work area and this is smooth in operation and will hold at any chosen height. The rear of the frame has a flexible band simulating the control hoses and cabling to the engine compartment.

The exterior of the cabin is equally well detailed with a lower foot platform for safe entry and exit from the cab while a grab rail is fitted to the frame along with a sun visor, two work light housings and a rear light.

The cabin interior has been replicated although this is not very easy to see as the windows have been tinted. The main driver's seat, hand controls and the main display console can just about be seen with the right lighting conditions.

The model is fitted with a five tine cactus scrap handling grab which is produced in plastic and offers a very good range of movement of the tines along with rotational and pivoting movement, topped with flexible hydraulic lines.

The back of the boom has raised plastic piping which has been produced in a silver colour and is very convincing while flexible plastic hoses have also been fitted. The hydraulic cylinders have realistic integrated pipe work which is another enhancement found on the latest releases from Conrad.

The paint finish is to Conrad's usual high standard with the orange and grey colours authentically replicated from the full sized machine. The printing is crisp and clear with Atlas logos found on the boom, body sides and counterweight. The Atlas 350MH is another good addition to the Atlas Maschinen GmbH model range.
