Allis Chalmers HD21 with Cable Blade

Allis Chalmers HD21

This is the Allis Chalmers HD21 tracked tractor with cable operated blade in 1:25th scale from First Gear. I decided to add this model to my collection after seeing the detail level on the other 1:25th scale models from First Gear and I have to say this is another supperb release.

The individually linked metal tracks are supperbly detailed and are an exact replication of the real tracks. Ever the idler tensioning piston is visible along with the bolt and tooth detail on the drive wheels. The rear of the model features a detailed dual winch assembly with working pulleys and operator levers. The right winch operates the blade while the left winch is used for the disc harrow. The cable for the blade is fed through a channel on the side of the machine to the front mounted pulleys and a key is provided to operate the winches.

The towing bar fitted to the model features a locking mechanism which rotates to release the two pins used for towing attachments. The drawbar can be rotated to each side of the chassis and locked into place.

This is an amazing touch on a model and while I do not collect many 1:25th scale models, this level of realism is something I have not seen before on a model.

The detail provided in the operators cabin is awesome, including all the operator levers and foot pedals. There are faithfully reproduced dials on the console along with manufacturer plaques giving important safety and operating details to the operator.

The open engine compartment is the most detailed I have seen on a model with all the internal components visible including the detailed engine block with Allis Chalmers markings cast into the manifold.

The detailed radiator fan is placed behind a mesh protection screen which is another supperb touch and the wire controls from the levers are also authentically reproduced.

The front grill is etched with an authentic pattern of holes, including the diagonal areas protecting the front mounted work lights which are visible behind. The blade is mounted to the frame at the central point and can be angled left or right. This is achieved by pulling out the side bars and locating them in the relevant holes in the boom frame.

The disc harrow attachment supplied with the model is equally well detailed with metal discs mounted to an adjustable frame. The frame adjustment is cable operated with a sprung loaded, fully functioning locking mechanism.

The locking bar engages in the closed and fully open positions and shows just how much detail can be added to a 1:25th scale model.

This is an excellent first release in the Allis Chalmers vintage line and with the recently announced HD41 and just released TS300 scraper, I have no doubt that the range will build steadily as the International range has over the last couple of years.
