Volvo Gryphin - Concept Wheel LoaderPresented here is the rather unique Gryphin wheel loader concept, the second in the range which symbolises Volvo's glimpse into the future of construction equipment. The model is 1:50th scale and highlights a number of concepts and interesting design chioces which may some day find themselves on production equipment. As with the Centaur, operator visibility is excellent with large glazed panels and an intricate light weight lattice pillars all replicated on the model. The swing up opening door has integrated rear view mirror and a small magnet, keeping the door in the closed position which is another good touch on a small model. The cabin interior has been ergonomically designed with the fully configurable drivers seat and joystick controls all simulated. The gryphin would be powered by an electric hybrid powerpack or fuel cell technology which results in a more compact engine that allows for a sleek body shape which has been crisply cast and replicated. The rear body encompasses an extending counterweight to keep the machine prefectly ballanced when the bucket is loaded and increases the lift capacity of the machine. This is a nice addition on the model. Electrical motors fitted inside each wheel with regenerative breaking allow for independent control and independent intelligent suspension which is fully functional on the model with each arm pivoting, complete with integral wheel guards. This concept allows for a smooth ride for the operator and load over the most arduous underfoot conditions.
The low profile tyres have a detailed ridged tread pattern and freely rotate while the central motor housing remains in a horizontal position which is another nice piece of engineering on the model. The paint is evenly applied and has a metallic finish with embossed Volvo logos on the engine sides and the boom with a printed Volvo logo across the top of the windscreen. |
