Presented here is the 1:50th scale Volvo ECR235C tracked excavator from Motorart. This is a stunning model and has been eagerly anticipated since it was first announced at the start of the year.

The main body casting has three opening panels, accurately scaled handrails and textured flooring panels with simulated anti slip surface. Side and rear view mirrors have been added to give the operator a good all round view around the machine and work lights with painted lenses are fitted to the cab roof.

The main engine bay features an opening cover which reveals the diesel engine detailing within, complete with Volvo logo on the engine block (pictured left)

The rear side panel opens to reveal more engine components and service points which have been accurately modelled. (pictured above)

The side opening door towards the front of the body houses the hydraulic distribution systems and valves which have been authentically reproduced. (pictured below)

The tiny dimensions of the upper body demonstrate the engineering that must have gone into producing an amazingly compact machine, packing the powerplant, cooling and hydraulic systems into such a small footprint and this has been fully captured on the model. The tall rear counterweight with accurate placement of the safety markings and Volvo logo has an angled mirror giving the driver the ability to see behind the machine which is a nice touch.

The cab interior has been accurately reproduced with contoured seat, joystick controls and side console all visible. The large front screen has a fixed wiper with roof mounted work light and roof window, complete with painted rubber seals and hinge detailing.

The individually linked metal tracks are freely rotating with triple grouser pad detailing and these look much better than the tracks on some of the earlier Volvo models.

The undercarriage has a blade mounted to the frame which can be raised/lowered using two hydraulic cylinders with protective plates. This is a nice touch on a larger model and the blade no doubt gives additional support for lifting applications on the full sized machine.

The hydraulic cylinders on the model have moulded pipe detailing and even have the bolt detailing on the end sections which is another nice touch on the model and shows the attention to detail that Motorart have gone to on the model. The flexible hydraulic hoses from the back of the boom to the distribution block have a realistic textured surface to simulate the armoured piping found on the full sized machine.

The ECR235C is a very welcomed addition to the Volvo model fleet and while the price of the model may be a little high, there is no denying that the level of detail has increased and I believe the cost of the model is justified. The paint finish is excellent with crisp casting detailing clearly visible along with accurately placed warning labels.
