Volvo EC220D Tracked Excavator
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Volvo EC220D tracked excavator which has been produced in China by Motorart. The undercarriage has linked metal tracks which have double grouser pads and are tensioned, so don't rotate particularly well. The track frames have cast lower roller and step detailing with reasonably finished drive wheels.
The cabin interior has been modelled and has everything present including the driver's seat, joystick controls and steering levers while the exterior of the cab has grab rails and a highlighted door handle, complete with tiny printed Volvo logo. A tinted roof window has been installed with integrated roof lights and a windscreen wiper.

The opening engine cover reveals a plastic engine casting which is decorated with authentic colours and the Volvo markings across the engine block. The upper decking has a textured surface with good casting detail on the engine cut-outs which have been highlighted with black printing.

While the model has some good detailing, it also has a major flaw with the use of plastic hydraulic rams which are in a dark grey colour rather than the expected silver. This is a very dissapointing addition on the model which really is poor considering the retail price of the model. The slack movement also prevents the boom from holding in certain positions. |

The paint finish is good with several safety warning labels printed on the rear counterweight and the stick while the Volvo name and machine's designation are clearly printed. The mirrors have a silver finish and there is a small rear view camera housing located on the rear. The use of plastic rams for all the hydraulics is a very strange engineering choice and in my opinion, spoils what would otherwise have been a good addition to the Volvo model fleet.
