1:50th Scale Volvo A40F Articulated Dump Truck
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Volvo A40F articulated dump truck from Motorart. The model is an update to their previous A40E and A40E-FS models with an updated design.
The rear chassis features nicely detailed inner wheel hubs and a replicated suspension system along with drive shafts to the axles but unlike on the early A40D ADT model where the suspension can oscillate, on this model it is fixed in place which is a little dissapointing considering the retail price for the model.

The large rubber tyres have an accurate moulded tread pattern with wheel hubs showing bolt fastening detail. The rear lights are painted onto the housing which is integrated into the dump bed.

The F series model has an opening engine compartment and fold down front grill, just like the full sized machine. The engine bay is fitted with a fully replicated diesel engine and associated components including air filters, cooling system and exhaust piping.
The cab interior has been fully modelled with drivers seat centrally located along with a detailed console and steering wheel. The rear window has mesh screen detailing with a windscreen wiper added to the front window.
The rear view mirror assemblies are integrated into the plastic grab rails which extend from the cabin frame and are fairly accurately scaled and look fine. The front windscreen has a fitted wiper and the rear window has a protective plastic screen.
The articulating frame has a good angle of movement with two hydraulic cylinders fitted to the steering linkage and the frame can oscillate by about 20 degrees to each side of centre. Access steps are fitted to the rear of both wheel arches with accurately scaled plastic handrails which have a curved shape while the steps have a textured and highlighted upper surface.
This is a fair update to the original model with a crisp paint finish and accurate placement of the Volvo markings while the opening engine cover features a different grille shape over the previous versions. It is a shame that the rear axles cannot demonstrate the functional suspension system and the tipping angle of the dump body is surprisingly low (as shown below) considering the length of the hydraulic cylinders. At least the dump rams are metal on this model unlike some of their other recent releases.
