Vermeer V8550 Trencher

Vermeer V8550

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Vermeer V8550 Trencher from FF Ertl. The V8550 is used for cutting trenches for utility installation and cable laying and the model presented here is a decent attempt to capture the details of the full sized machine.

The front of the model has a moving dozer blade and above this is a backhoe digging boom which features movement of the boom, stick and bucket. The large stabilisers are cast as a part of the main frame and cannot be lowered. An operator seat and controls are modelled on the front bonnet and the main control station features an open ROPs canopy.

The rear of the model houses the main cutting assembly which is made entirely of plastic with some nicely detailed cutting teeth and spoil removal auger. The frame pivots and the cutter can be positioned as required.

This is an OK model considering it's size and is something a little different to the usual construction machines. It would be nice to see an update of this type of machine and with TWH Collectibles now looking after the Vermeer model program, there is a good chance of a very accurate replica of this type of machine in the future.
