1:50th Scale Valmet 445EXL Tracked Harvester

Valmet 445EXL Tracked Harvester

This is the new 1:50th scale Valmet 445EXL self leveling tracked harvester from Sword Precision Scale Models. The cab is fully detailed with an accurate operator compartment, which is visible through the clear windows and opening door. Even the fire extinguisher and warning markings are added inside the cab along with the Valmet brand logo on the back of the seat.

The opposite side of the body features several opening engine covers which reveal the incredibly detailed Komatsu QSE engine, cooling system and hydraulic pump components, including batteries complete with electrical connections and visible fan blades.

The front engine cooling grill is hinged and can be opened to reveal the radiator detail inside. The rear of the machine has another opening compartment where all the hydraulic hoses are connected which then travel the length of the boom.

The undercarriage features tensioned idler wheels and individually linked free rolling metal tracks with full grouser detail. The upper structure is mounted on hydraulics that allows the upper structure to tilt in order to keep the body level. There is even the addition of a flexible rubber protection mat to prevent the mechanism from getting clogged, just like on the real machine.

Valmet 385 Harvesting Head

The 385 head itself is fully functional and contains all the details found on the real machine, including the large and small swing out chain saws, grapple and de-limber knives, rotating feed rollers and hydraulic parts, complete with flexible hydraulic hoses wrapped in protective plastic.  All warning and danger markings have been produced on the model, right down to the warnings inside the engine covers and the keep clear markings on the boom.

The model is packed in a two piece polystyrene box with printed cardboard outer box featuring pictures and details of the real machine.  There is a region free DVD inside the box which features footage of the machine at work with footage of other machines and harvesting heads in the range. An information booklet with pictures and information on the machine is also provided along with a plastic tool with a point at one end and a flexible flat spade at the other for opening the various compartments and cab doors. This is an awesome model with more detail that i have ever seen on a 1:50th scale die-cast model and shows just what can be achieved. For a retail price of $79, the Valmet 445EXL is a steal and i suspect that the other model manufacturers are scratching their heads trying to work out how Sword Models can produce such a detailed model for the price.
