Case Steiger 485 HD Construction Tractor
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Case Steiger 485 HD articulated construction tractor from First Gear. The model has been produced in two versions, an agricultural version and the heavy duty construction version reviewed here.
The model has plenty of detail and realism and accurately captures the lines of the Steiger articulated tractor very well. The large dual tyres have a deep moulded tread pattern with silver hubs and the four external wheels can be removed from the model to allow it to be displayed in a narrower transport configuration which is a nice feature.

The cab has been accurately modelled with the lightly coloured interior fully visible through the large, clearly glazed windows. The front of the cab has a windscreen wiper whilst the rear view mirror frames pivot and can be adjusted. |
Steps fitted to both sides of the chassis allow access into the cab and these have accurately scaled grab rails and silver painted steps with the bottom most step having black painted sides simulating the stiff rubber found on the full sized tractor for extra realism.
The heavy duty towing linkage is mounted low down for added pulling power and allows the seperately available Miskin towed scraper to be connected. |

The rear of the tractor features plastic moulded weights with a number of small holes simulating the hydraulic linkup points which is another good addition. |

The wide bonnet has a ridged front grill with integrated work lights which consist of clear plastic lenses. On each side are additional counterweight holders for added traction, complete with grab rails and a towing shackle and rope wire cable has been added, just as found on the full sized tractor.
