1:43rd Scale Shantui SD42-3 Tracked Tractor
The Shantui SD42-4 dozer is an interesting looking machine, based on Komatsu technology which is rather obvious from the design and looks of the dozer. The model has been made in 1:43rd scale and was available to purchase at the recent Bauma trade fair.
While the scale is a little out for most die-hard 1:50th scale collectors, the model does have some very good detailing and does not look too out of place when displayed with 1:50th scale dozers.
The cab interior has been replicated and both cab doors can be opened to gain a better view of the interior. This is a nice touch on the model.
Silver metal grab rails have been added with a rear mounted windscreen wiper and flood lights integrated into the ROPS. The casting detail highlights the body and door panels well and the paint finish is even and not too thick.

The rear of the model has a functioning single shank ripper with added flexible hydraulic piping which has a textured look to simulated armour protection. This is the same for the hydraulic pipes fitted to the blade lift cylinders. |
The side engine panels are made from etched mesh which allow the outline of the engine block to be seen. Tampo print warning markings have been added to both sides of the engine bay for added realism. |

The tracks are made from plastic and consist of individual links with crisp grouser and bolt head detailing. The main drive sprocket casting has fixing bolt detailing and the track frame casting has integrated bottom and top rollers which look fine.
