Bucher-Schörling Cityfant 6000 Road Sweeper

Most plant hire companies employ road sweepers to keep streets clean and tidy during construction and yet models of road sweepers are few and far between. Conrad has produced an exclusive edition version of the updated sweeper decorated in the Jean Lefebvre company colours on a Mercedes-Benz Actros 4x2 chassis.

The Cityfant 6000 features robust sweep gear with the leading arm channel brushes pneumatically controlled with a wide, swivelling sweeping brush and second sweep unit allowing left or right handed operation, ideal for dual carriageway sweeping. The rear mounted wanderhose allows gully and grid cleaning while offering extended reach for debris clean up behind crash barriers. Power for the suction system is from a compact, low-emission secondary engine with a 1900 litre water tank and large chromium steel debris hopper.

Despite the small dimensions, the 1:50th scale die-cast model from Conrad really packs a punch with some very nicely engineered solutions for the delicate sweeper arm mechanisms. The model has been decorated in the green and orange colours of Jean Lefebvre, part of the VINCI Group.

A rotating brush is located on both sides of the chassis, connected to a plastic arm which pivots outward into working mode. The entire frame can be lowered until the rear pick-up housing, complete with simulated roller wheels, touches the ground. The central sweeper brush has been produced with fine scaled bristles which look very authentic and the frame can be angled left or right and can be lifted up into the travel position.

On the collector version, the entire rear hopper unit can be tilted, revealing a mock up of the secondary engine, cooling and exhaust systems beneath which is a nice feature on the model over the original OEM release.

The rear of the model features a wanderhose which is made from a flexible rubber material with a metal end section. Although the support frame is fixed to the rear panel, the hose itself can be detached from the holder to simulate its operation.

The underside of the chassis has suspension detailing on the rear axle with tightly turning front steering and authentically moulded rubber tyres with intricate silver wheel hubs and painted centres. The cabin interior has been modelled with crisp casting of the cab, complete with inset door handles and access step detailing while self-fit rear view mirrors need fixing into the holes in the cab frame.
