Scania R 8x4 tractor with Nooteboom 5-axle Pendel X Trailer and 2-axle DollyPresented here is the 1:50th scale Scania R 8x4 prime mover with Nooteboom 2-axle dolly and 5-axle Pendel X trailer from NZG. The 2-axle dolly unit has a kingpin which connects to the fifth wheel of the trailer by using a little force to engage. The top of the dolly has the mounting point for the trailer goosneck which clips into place. Both wheels are covered with metal guards with simulated rubber end pieces and two air tanks are located between the chassis frame.
The bed of the trailer has a central, simulated wooded deck with extension and tie down ring detailing cast into the side frames of the trailer bed. The trailer frame has an extending construction allowing longer items to be transported and to adjust this, the two pins that secure the bed need removing to allow the bed to extend.
The design of the rear section of the trailer is interesting with the five axles mounted to the framework on each side allowing the centre to be at the same height as the trailer bed. This is useful when transporting excavators where the stick can be lowered into the space between the rear axles to reduce the height and the model has captured these details well with each of the axles having working suspension along with a linked steering bar which gives a good amount of steering before the tyres contact with the frame.
The low height design of the cab fitted to the chassis allows items to be transported that extend beyond the length of the trailer and a safety bar is mounted behind the cab to prevent damage. The wing mirrors are already fitted and have silver painted reflective surfaces. The cab roof has amber beacons and a small roof window while the main windscreen and side windows reveal the replicated cab interior. The paint finish is excellent with a number of details picked out with paint along with the prominent Scania logo across the front of the cab.
The tyres fitted to the wheel hubs have a realistic moulded road tread pattern and the silver finished wheel hubs are highly detailed. The metal wheel arches over the rear wheels have light clusters fitted which have red, amber and silver lenses along with number plate and printed Scania logos on the simulated rubber mud flaps. The front two axles feature a linked steering mechanism which gives a little movement before the tyres foul on the frame and the front bumper panel has integrated headlights with clear and amber tinted lenses.
