Miskin D-19 Towed Scraper
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Miskin D-19 towed scraper from First Gear. The towed scraper is becoming more popular and it is good to see a 1:50th scale model finally produced. The first impressions are of a very realistic looking replica of the Miskin brand scraper although when taking a closer look, there are a number of areas where the model could be much better.
The skirt and bowl are a single piece casting so do not function as the full sized machine and have been modelled in a loaded configuration. Hydraulics are modelled as part of the ejector mechanism to empty the bowl but this is also non-functional which is dissapointing.

The bowl design is hinged with hydraulics used to lower the bowl during the loading phase and these have been added to the model. They are very loose so do not hold at the chosen position and require two small metal pins (supplied) to keep the bowl raised.
The overall detailing of the scraper, with the mesh rear screen and side protective covers with crisp printed Miskin details add to the realistic appearance.

The rear frame of the scraper houses the four large wheels which have good detailing with a crisp and realistic tread pattern. The centre of the frame houses a towing structure allowing several scrapers to be connected to each other, complete with hydraulic line hookup. |

The scraper can be connected to the 1:50th scale Case Steiger 485HD construction tractor, also from First Gear with sockets provided to connect up the flexible hydraulic lines which is a nice addition. Also supplied is an adaptor allowing the scraper to be used with models that have a rear drawbar linkage. |
The model is a good representation of the Miskin D-19 although plastic is used a little more than I would have liked. The non functioning aspects of the scraper are dissapointing and this detracts a little from what could have been a fantastic release.
