Mercedes Benz LAK 2624 3-axle Tipper Truck

Presented here is the 1:50th scale bonneted Mercedes Benz LAK 2624 3-axle tipper truck from Conrad. The model has been produced in three different colours including orange, Azure blue and the green version reviewed here. An exclusive version in dark blue has also been produced.

The bonnet opens to unveil the Mercedes engine block and radiator beneath which have been decorated while the front photo-etched grill looks the part, wrapping around the contours of the front bodywork. The curved cabin has been modelled well with clear glazing and printed window seals added, while the door handles have been highlighted with self-fit silver wing mirrors.

The curved front bumper has integrated towing hitch detailing with inset driving lights which have clear plastic lenses while the indicator lights on the sides of the engine panel are painted on. The front wheel arches have tiny orange painted tips with silver steps placed below the cab doors.

The rear tipping body has a limited degree of tipping movement with a pivoting tailgate and ridged side panels with a smooth bottom. The rear chassis frame has a towing hitch with painted on light housings and plastic mud flaps on each side with a safety bar integrated into the lower edge of the chassis and a circular fuel tank fixed to one side and air cylinders fixed on the other side.

The underside of the model displays plenty of detail, from the suspension arms with floating rear axles allowing some degree of suspension movement and the driveshafts fitted from the front and rear axles to the distribution block which is then coupled to the gearbox housing. The front axle moulding houses the front drive hub with linked steering which has a good range of movement. The chromed exhaust silencer box is mounted below the frame with piping from the engine compartment and a curved tailpipe.

This is a rahter impressive replica of the Mercedes Benz LAK all-wheel drive truck and i have no doubt that the model will be released at a later date with alternative bodies, likely a mixer body or skip body. The model is packed in a foam lined inner wrap with blue Conrad printed cardboard box and is pictured below alongside the orange painted version.
