Mecalac AX850 Wheel Loader

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Mecalac AX850 wheel loader from Conrad. The model is an update from the older Ahlman AX85 which now features the Mecalac name now that the two companies have become one under the Mecalac brand. Apart from the printing, there is only one slight difference between the Ahlman and Mecalac versions and that is with the cabin doors.

The rubber tyres have a detailed tread pattern moulded into them and are fitted to plastic wheel hubs which have cast bold head detailing. The wheels are freely rotating and the articulated steering achieves a good degree of turn although there are no hydraulic cylinders fitted which is not too surprising on a model this size. The articulated joint also has a small amount of oscillation which is a nice addition on the model.

The cab interior has been accurately reproduced with driver's seat, side console and central steering console all present with control levers and steering wheel all visible. The cab has an interesting design with the front and roof window appearing to have no dividing frame, allowing a good view of the bucket when working at height. There are front and rear work lights integrated into the roof with white painted lenses.

The single loader arm has a quick coupler attached to allow the bucket to be exchanged for the supplied pallet forks. The loader arm features a parrallel linkage which also allows a good amount of tip of the bucket. The rear body shape is compact with a pronounced curve allowing the machine to work in confined spaces and this has been captured on the model. The counterweight has integrated lights with painted lenses, including reverse and indicator lenses which is another nice addition.

This is another interesting model from Conrad with an excellent paint finish and crisp tampo printed markings. The model is packed in a foam lined cardboard inner with outer printed cardboard box.
