Komatsu HM400-3 Articulated Dumptruck

Presented here is the 1:50th scale Komatsu HM400-3 articulated dump truck which has been produced by First Gear.

The Komatsu HM400-3 is the top of the range articulated hauler with a payload of 40 ton. Powered by a 6-cylinder Stage IIIB / Tier 4i SAA6D140E-6 turbo-charged diesel engine delivering 473hp, the truck has front and rear hydro-pneumatic suspension with an exclusive Komatsu traction control system, Komatsu-built power train and full-automatic counter-shaft K-ATOMiCS transmission with 6 forward and 2 reverse gears providing a top speed of 55.9km/h.

First Gear has done a great job on the 1:50th scale model with plenty of fine detailing and realism found throughout.

The cabin interior features all the main components including the dashboard, seat and steering wheel while the outside of the cab has integrated and authentically scaled rear view mirrors and safety railings with access steps located forward of the front wheel.

The chassis has hydraulically powered steering with the rear axles pivoting to highlight the suspension system fitted to the truck, complete with a replicated drive-train to the rear axles from the articulation point.

There is a lot of fine detailing to admire, from the flexible hose bundles behind the cab to the intricate ridge engraving on the bonnet.

The walk areas have black printed anti-slip panels with underside towing brackets and an offset engine cover with air filter housing detailing.

The rear body tips to an authentic angle with the hydraulic cylinders feeling stiff, allowing any angle to be maintained.

The tyres have an accurate deep tread pattern with finished wheel hubs that have good surface engraving of the bolt heads with mud guards fitted to the body. The paint finish is of a very high standard and while there is plastic used here and there, the colour match is very good indeed.
