For years, the 1:50th scale JCB releases have been produced by Motorart, so it is refreshing to see NZG release their first 1:50th scale JCB model and they have done a really good job of capturing the aesthetic appearance of the 86C-1 midi tracked excavator.

The undercarriage has rubber tracks that have good surface detailing of the individual track pads with indents representing the bolt fixing locations with fairly plain track frames and a height adjustable blade.

The counterweight has engraved slots on the sides which are accented with black paint while the panel grills are achieved with fine printing to represent the perforations, complete with highlighted panel latch.

The main bonnet has a cast handle with ridge detailing and red printed stripes with a small exhaust pipe rising up and accurate placement of the JCB logos and machine designation.

The single colour cabin interior is fully replicated with all the operating controls visible within while the glazing has a slight blue tint to it. The cab frame incorporates the door hinges and handle with roofline fitted lights that have silver painted lenses and a rear view mirror mounted to the inside frame of the cabin.

The king post can be angled left and right to allow poses working in line with the tracks while the boom, stick and bucket linkage are modelled to accurately capture the range of movement of the full sized machine.

The boom casting incorporates surface engraving for the hydraulic lines which are finished in a silver colour.

Auxiliary circuits have been replicated on the model with connection blocks fitted to both sides of the stick which is a nice addition.

Flexible hydraulic lines have been added to the model and while these look good, as the stick is fully extended, the hoses look a little untidy. This aside, the end results are very pleasing and it is great to see NZG once again producing models of JCB equipment.

The paint finish is top notch with an even coat allowing the surface casting details to be seen with all the pins connecting the moving parts also touched in which enhances the model's appearance. The JCB logos are crisply printed and accurately placed.
