JCB 3CX Backhoe Loader

Finally, after years of waiting, the first 1:50th scale JCB models have hit the shelves. The models have been manufactured by Motorart under licence from JCB. There could only be one choice for their first 1:50th scale model, the 3CX backhoe loader.

The level of detail on the model is impressive, from the rear fully functional backhoe, featuring working extradig stick and digging bucket to the fully detailed cab, both inside and out. The rear of the model has a working sideshift, however, the stabilisers are fixed and do not extend. This does not really detract from the model but would have been a nice touch, especially as Motorart were able to do so on the Volvo BL71 model.

The paint finish of the model is superb, as is now expected from Motorart. The markings are very crisp with the well known JCB markings clearly visible on the boom. The cab interior has been fully modelled, with steering column, console and rear operator levers all visible through the clear glazing. There is even a JCB logo printed on the seat. The outside of the cab is equally detailed with scale handrails, mirrors and windscreen wipers all present.

One dissapointment with the model is the front bucket. It should have been no problem for Motorart to produce a working 4-in-1 bucket and yet the model features a one piece molding. Considering the other details on the model, this is a real shame and I only hope JCB have the bucket modified for future batches to feature a working 4-in-1 bucket.

Concusion - This is a really good 1:50th scale backhoe model with plenty of detail. As the 3CX is the best known JCB machine, it is no surprize that sales of the model have been very high. It goes well with the JS220 model and there are several more 1:50th scale models in development for release in 2007.
