Hitachi ZW180-6 Wheel Loader

Presented here is the Hitachi ZW180-6 which is a very popular mid-sized wheel loader that has been produced by TMC Scalemodels in 1:50th scale. The ZW180-6 weighs in around the 15ton mark and is powered by a fuel efficient Cummins QSB6.7 6-cylinder diesel engine delivering 173hp. The 5-speed transmission gives a maximum forward speed of over 38km/h based on 20.5 R25 tyres.

Both the lift height and bucket tip are authentic to the original with hydraulic hose lines added, not only to the lift and bucket cylinders, but also two auxiliary lines which are located on the inside of the loader arms, ready to power any aftermarket attachments.

The cabin has a fully furnished interior which can be seen through the clear glazing and unlike with the Hitachi excavators, the cabin doors do not open although there is plenty of fine detailing both inside and out including grab rails with integrated rear view mirrors, front and rear window wipers and a two-tone coloured interior.

Metal grab handles and access steps are located on both sides of the chassis with a dimpled anti slip surface on the upper access platform. The articulating chassis has a good range of steering movement and includes a driveshaft across the articulation point along with the steering cylinders.

The rear panel has slotted openings allowing the internal radiator and cooling fan blades to be seen, with integrated rear facing lights and the contoured counterweight which has small printed warning labels.

The two large side engine panels lift up to reveal a very detailed engine bay interior with everything added, from the main engine block and rear cooling radiator housing to the hydraulic fluid cooler, complete with associated pipework.

The silver finished exhaust silencer, air intake and even filler bottle are modelled with precision while the vents integrated into the side panels are produced from a very fine mesh photo-etch part which really does look realistic.

The paint finish is of a high standard with an even coating allowing all the surface casting details to show through. The printing of the Hitachi name and machine designation is crisp and clear. The model is available from the Hitachi Merchandising Webshop.
