Caterpillar 572C Pipe Layer

The open operator station is highly detailed with a host of control levers and foot pedals along with drivers seat and printed dials on the engine monitoring panel mounted to the left of the engine housing.

The open engine compartment reveals the replicated engine block in the heart of the engine bay.

The hook and side boom are both connected to the winch with realistic looking rope with a detailed load block and pulley block connected to the tip of the boom.

The only dissapointment on the model is the use of only one winch, so when raising the boom, the hook also raises and there is no ability to control the hook and boom winches seperately.

Caterpillar 572C

The boom can be raised to an acute angle before the hook block prevents further movement but the boom cannot be lowered any further than in the picture below. This is because the hook and boom winches operate as one so adding extra rope for the boom would leave too much loose rope on the load block.

This is another good model from Norscot and is certainly much better than their last attempt at a historic 1:50th scale model (Caterpillar 977 traxcavator) with crisp casting details and plenty of detailing, especially in the drivers area. The individually linked tracks look good and are freely rotating on the plastic idler and sprocket wheels whilst the paint finish is good with accurate placement of the printed decorations. The plastic plinth and dust cover is a nice addition and the model is packed in a printed cardboard box with open front and top panels.
