Shield Bantam C-35 Shovel

Shield Bantam C-35 Shovel

Presented here is the Shield Bantam C-35 in shovel configuration from Spec Cast. This is a small model which packs some good detailing and nice touches including the metal linked tracks and up to three winches inside the car body.

The boom and dipper are both controlled by rope winches which offer a good range of movement although the dipper is fixed at the pivot point and does not extend as the full sized machine. The shovel door does not open and this again is likely due to the scale of the model and what is possible to keep the model under a cetain price.

The undercarriage features authentic style, individually linked metal tracks and detailed track frames which add to the visual impact of the model.

On the model reviewed, there is not enough rope connected to the winch that controls the dipper and when fully wound out, the dipper only has about half the movement it should have (Pictured left with line wound fully out). This is a little dissapointing and while this can be fixed, it would involve dismantling the model to get access to the winch in question whick looks a little tricky.

The body casting is pretty good with panel detailing cast into the surfaces. As with the other versions, the use of plastic plugs to block the holes where the winches are operated is a nice addition and better than just leaving holes in the sides of the model.

The cab interior has been replicated with the large control handles visible through the clear windows. Black highlighting has been used to pick out the simulated rubber window seals and this adds to the detail level. Spec Cast have done a good job capturing the essence of the Bantam C-35 in shovel configuration with a good paint finish and accurate printed logos.
