John Deere 824J Log Loader
Presented here is the John Deere 824J log loader in 1:50th scale from ERTL. The model is from their standard range and is missing some of the finer details now found in their "High Detail" series . That said, the casting quality is good and the paint finish and decals are all well applied.

The loader arms feature Z-bar linkage to the functional log grapple which can be opened / closed to grip one of the two plastic logs supplied with the model. As with most Ertl models, the use of large headed silver rivets for all the moving joints reduces the realistic appearance a little. The plastic logs do not look at all realistic and have not been pictured here.

The tyres have a well defined tread pattern and are fitted to plastic wheel hubs which are freely rotating. The articulated chassis has a reasonable degree of steering and the rear engine compartment has textured grill detail cast into it while the cab has a replicated interior. |
The model does not feature any opening compartments or fine detailing but is a good solid model at a very reasonable price and looks good alongside the other Deere models.
